Lettuce Chez Le Bart ORGANIC Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

This tasty butterhead type lettuce has large heads with slightly red edged light green leaves making this an attractive choice for mixed salads.

It can be harvested from early summer over a long period if time.

This variety has been awarded by ProSpecieRara as a rare or old variety.

Sow January - March or September

Germination 7 - 14 days

Loam - sandy soil that's alkaline or neutral

Harvest May onwards

Companion Plants Beetroot, beans, carrots and radish.

Do not plant with cabbage

Pick the lettuce when they are of a decent size

A good source of vitamin A

Use in Salads and sandwiches

Lettuce does not grow well in acidic soil.

Keep well watered during dry spells.

Sow indoors on a sunny window sill between January - March into a seed tray of moist compost.

When the young plants are large enough to handle transplant into trays 5cm apart to grow on. Gradually harden off the young plants before planting out when the risk of frost has past.

Sow between late September in drills 1.5cm deep and 25cm between rows. When the seedlings appear thin to 25cm apart.

May need some protection over winter.
