Known botanically as Anthriscus cerefolium Fine Curled this organically produced annual is valued for its tender foliage and culinary versatility.

Sow March to September directly outdoors or in trays. Germination 7 to 14 days at 15–20°C. Soil and Position Moist fertile well drained soil; prefers partial shade. Height 30–40 cm with finely divided curled leaves. Harvesting May to October; pick leaves regularly to encourage fresh growth.

 

Sowing instructions

Prepare a fine seed bed in partial shade. Sow seeds thinly in drills 1 cm deep and 30 cm apart. Thin seedlings to 10 cm spacing once established. Water well after sowing and keep soil evenly moist during dry spells. Successional sowings every few weeks provide a continuous supply.

 

Grow and maintenance

Grow in moist fertile soil with regular watering to prevent bolting. Chervil prefers cooler conditions and partial shade. Harvest leaves frequently to maintain tender growth. Practice crop rotation to reduce the risk of soil borne pests and diseases.
