Artichoke Green Globe (Cynara scolymus) is a bold and productive perennial prized for its large, edible flower buds and striking, silvery foliage.

Sowing Instructions

Indoors:

Sow seeds individually in pots or modules from February to April. Cover lightly with compost and maintain a temperature of 18–22°C. Keep soil moist but not waterlogged. When seedlings are well established, pot on into 9 cm pots and harden off before planting outdoors.

 

Outdoors:

Transplant into a sunny, sheltered spot with deep, fertile soil after the last frost. Space plants 90 cm apart. Mulch well and water regularly during dry spells. Plants may produce edible buds in the first year from early sowing, but full cropping begins in year two.
