Strawberry Wild Alpine Attila Seeds – Irish Plants Direct

The Wild Alpine Attila (Fragaria vesca L.) is a unique trailing strawberry variety prized for its delicious, aromatic berries and ornamental beauty.

Unlike traditional compact alpine strawberries, Attila produces long runners up to 1 metre, making it perfect for hanging baskets, containers, or as a cascading ground cover.

The small, ruby red fruits are packed with intense, sweet flavour and a delightful fragrance reminiscent of wild woodland strawberries. Prolific and everbearing, this variety produces fruits from early summer until the first frosts, offering a steady supply of treats straight from the plant.

In addition to its culinary value, Attila doubles as a decorative feature with its white blossoms, lush green foliage, and trailing habit. It is low maintenance, hardy, and ideal for gardeners with limited space who still wish to enjoy the taste of homegrown strawberries.

Sowing Instructions

Indoors: Sow seeds from January to April in trays or pots filled with fine seed compost. Do not cover seeds deeply, as light aids germination. Maintain a temperature of 18–21°C and keep the soil consistently moist. Germination can be slow and irregular. Prick out seedlings when large enough to handle and transplant into individual pots.

Outdoors/Containers: Harden off seedlings after the last frost and transplant into hanging baskets, large containers, or open ground. Allow 30 cm spacing between plants to encourage trailing growth. Provide regular watering and feed with a high-potash fertiliser once flowers appear for improved fruiting.

The Wild Alpine Attila strawberry offers the best of both worlds exceptional flavour in a trailing, ornamental form. A wonderful choice for gardeners who love compact yet productive fruiting plants with decorative appeal.
