Sowing & Growing

When to Sow February to June indoors for transplanting outdoors after frost or directly outdoors in May

Germination 14 to 28 days at 18–22°C

Soil & Position Well drained, sandy or loamy soil; prefers full sun

Height/Spread 45–60cm with bushy growth

Harvesting All year round once established, with sprigs cut as required

 

Sowing Instructions

Sow seeds thinly on the surface of moist fine compost in trays or pots. Lightly cover with compost or vermiculite. Maintain warmth until seedlings emerge. Transplant when large enough to handle into individual pots and grow on before planting outdoors after frost. Space plants 30cm apart in prepared beds or borders.

 

Grow & Maintenance

Grow in well drained soil with moderate watering. Sage thrives in sunny sites and requires minimal maintenance. Prune lightly to maintain shape and encourage bushy growth. Suitable for borders, herb gardens, and containers. Protect young plants from frost in colder regions.
