Primula Candelabra Woodside Mixed Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

Primula candelabra, commonly known as Candelabra Primula, is a striking and versatile perennial that brings a splash of colour to shady or damp garden spaces.

The Latin name Primula comes from the Latin word primus, meaning "first," as primroses were often among the first flowers to bloom in spring.

Candelabra variety is renowned for its tall, multi-tiered flower heads, which resemble a candelabra with clusters of vibrant blooms that rise from the plant in tiers.

The Woodside Mixed cultivar offers a lovely range of colours, from rich purples and pinks to soft yellows and whites, making it an ideal choice for woodland gardens, pondsides, or shaded borders.

These hardy perennials provide long-lasting colour and attract pollinators like bees and butterflies, making them an excellent addition to any wildlife-friendly garden.

This clump-forming perennial grows to a height of 30–45 cm and thrives in moist, well-drained, fertile soil in partial shade to full shade. It’s perfect for creating a woodland or naturalistic look in the garden, thriving in cool, damp conditions, and offering vibrant colour during the spring and early summer months.

Sowing Instructions
Indoors:
Sow seeds in seed trays or pots filled with moist, well-drained compost from January to March. Lightly cover the seeds with compost and maintain a temperature of 18–21°C. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots or directly into the garden after the last frost.

Outdoors:
Sow directly into prepared, moist soil from April to May. Lightly press the seeds into the soil and keep moist until germination occurs. Thin seedlings to 30–40 cm apart once established.

Primula Candelabra Woodside Mixed is the perfect choice for gardeners looking to add colour and texture to shaded or moist areas of their garden. Its stunning flower spikes and wildlife-friendly benefits make it a must have for woodland gardens and shady borders.
