Nasturtium Salmon Baby Seeds - Irish Plants Direct
 
A compact hardy annual with masses of striking salmon pink semi double flowers held above attractive dark green foliage that provide a long season of summer colour in beds containers hanging baskets and low borders.
 
Flowers and seeds are edible adding a decorative peppery note to salads and garnishes while also attracting pollinators to the kitchen garden.

Sow Sow March to May; sow into individual pots for earlier displays and plant out after all risk of frost has passed.
Germination 7 to 10 days in warm steady conditions; sow on the surface or cover very lightly and keep compost evenly moist.
Soil and Position Thrives in loam chalk or sandy soils and tolerates acidic alkaline or neutral conditions; prefers full sun and good drainage but will tolerate light shade.
Height Approx 30 cm; compact bushy habit ideal for edging pots and low borders.
Flowering June to September with abundant summer blooms; regular deadheading prolongs flowering and keeps plants tidy.
 
Sowing Instructions
 
Sow 3 or 4 seeds into individual pots on a sunny windowsill in March to May or sow directly into prepared soil after the last frost. Keep seed compost warm and moist and cover seeds very lightly or press onto the surface. Prick out or pot on when seedlings are large enough to handle and harden off before planting out. Space plants about 20 to 30 cm apart in beds or position singly in containers for best effect.
 
Grow and Maintenance
 
Grow in full sun in free draining soil and water regularly while establishing. Avoid waterlogging and feed lightly in containers. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continuous bloom and to maintain a tidy habit. Use containers or defined beds to control volunteers and replace congested clumps every few seasons to maintain vigour.
 
Uses and Benefits
 
Perfect for hanging baskets pots window boxes borders and low cottage beds. Flowers and leaves are edible and provide a colourful peppery garnish for salads sandwiches and platters. Plants attract bees hoverflies and other beneficial insects and provide striking contrast when paired with blue purple or silver foliaged plants.
