Description
Echinacea Large Flowered Seeds - Irish Plants Direct
Bold long lasting and highly attractive to pollinators. Echinacea Large Flowered produces generous daisy like blooms with prominent central cones and broad petals in shades of pink purple and white.
Plants form sturdy upright clumps with coarse textured foliage that perform well in borders cottage gardens and wildflower meadows.
Excellent for cut flowers drying and low maintenance schemes where seasonal impact and wildlife value are priorities.

Sow March to May indoors or April to May direct
Germination 10 to 30 days with cold stratification recommended for best results
Soil Light to medium well drained loam or sandy neutral to slightly alkaline
Height 60 to 100 cm
Flowering June to August often stronger from second year onward
Good Companions Rudbeckia salvia lavender ornamental grasses
Avoid Pairing With Dense shade or moisture logged heavy clay sites
Sowing Instructions
Sow indoors March to May surface sow or cover very lightly in trays of moist seed compost and cold stratify for 3 to 4 weeks at 4°C for best results. After stratification move trays to 18 to 21°C for emergence keep moist but not waterlogged and transplant seedlings when large enough to handle. Space transplants 30 to 45 cm apart. For direct sowing sow April to May into a well prepared weed free seedbed and thin to final spacing.
Grow in full sun or light shade and feed lightly in spring. Mulch to retain moisture during establishment. Echinacea often flowers more prolifically in its second year. Divide clumps every 3 to 4 years to rejuvenate plants. Cut back in late autumn and harvest stems mid morning for best vase life.
