Sowing Instructions

 

Sow seeds indoors from February to April in trays or modules filled with fine, moist compost. Sow 1.5 cm deep and keep at a temperature of 13-16°C. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into larger pots or outdoors, spacing 40-50 cm apart.

 

For direct sowing, plant seeds outdoors from April to May in a well-prepared seed bed. Thin seedlings as they grow, keeping the strongest for transplanting to their final positions.

 

Water regularly and mulch around plants to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds. Feed with a high-nitrogen fertiliser during growth to support large, healthy heads. Harvest when heads are firm and fully formed, cutting at the base with a sharp knife.
