This popular winter cropping variety has flattish rounded heads with densely packed crinkly dark green leaves.

 

They can be harvested early as tender greens or left to mature.

Cabbages require a fertile well drained soil in partial shade that has been well dug in autumn they do not like acidic soil so adding lime to the soil may be necessary. 

 

Sow outside from April onwards in a prepared seed bed sowing thinly in rows 23cm apart and 1.5cm deep keep the soil moist. When the plants have around 5 leaves transplant to their final position leaving 45cm between plants and 45cm between rows firm in and water well.

 

Sow between March- April indoors on a tray of compost sow thinly and cover with a fine layer of compost and place on a warm window sill or warm greenhouse.

 

When the seedlings emerge grow on until the plants are large enough to handle then transplant into tray 5cm apart grow on.

Gradually accustom the plants to outside then plant out into their final growing position 45cm between each plant and 45cm between rows.

 

Keep well watered during dry spells.
