Cabbage Chinese Hilton Seed

Hilton is a popular Chinese cabbage variety grown for its tall barrel shaped heads filled with tender crinkled leaves.

 

The outer leaves are light green while the inner heart is pale yellow, offering a crisp juicy texture and mild flavour. Heads typically reach 30 to 40 cm tall and are ready to harvest in just 65 to 75 days, making Hilton a dependable choice for gardeners seeking a quick and versatile crop.

 

This variety is particularly valued for its culinary versatility. The leaves can be eaten raw in salads, lightly steamed, stir fried, or fermented into homemade kimchi. It is also rich in vitamins A and C, calcium, and fibre, making it a nutritious addition to the kitchen garden.

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow thinly in finely raked moist soil at a depth of 1 cm spacing rows 35–40 cm apart. Thin seedlings gradually to 30 cm apart. Alternatively sow in modules and transplant once large enough to handle. Keep soil consistently moist to prevent bolting.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Chinese cabbage prefers cooler conditions and is best grown as a summer or autumn crop. Protect young plants from flea beetle with mesh or fleece. Water regularly during dry spells and feed with a nitrogen rich fertiliser to encourage leafy growth. Harvest promptly when heads are firm and compact.
