Okra Clemson Spineless Seed

A highly productive and fast growing variety, Clemson Spineless is a favourite among gardeners for its tender, smooth, and stringless pods.

 

This heirloom okra variety produces vibrant green, ridged pods with a mild, slightly nutty flavour, perfect for adding to soups, stews, stir-fries, and traditional dishes such as gumbo.

 

Thriving in full sun with well-drained soil. The attractive plants grow upright with lush foliage and striking yellow hibiscus-like flowers, adding ornamental value to vegetable gardens.

Sowing Instructions

 

Soak seeds in warm water for 12–24 hours before sowing to improve germination.

 

Sow indoors from March to May in seed trays or pots filled with fine compost. Cover with 1 cm of compost, keep at a temperature of 18–22°C, and water gently. Transplant seedlings into larger pots once they develop true leaves.

 

Once the risk of frost has passed, harden off and transplant outdoors into a sunny, sheltered location. Space plants 30–40 cm apart, ensuring soil is well-draining and rich in organic matter.

 

For direct sowing, wait until late spring when the soil has warmed. Sow seeds 1 cm deep, spacing 30 cm apart, and water regularly.

 

Harvest regularly to encourage continuous pod production. Leaving pods to mature on the plant will slow further growth.
