Bee Balm Scarlet Mix Seeds.

A hardy and free flowering perennial with a striking Mix of bright colourful blooms in various shades of red, pink and purple that are held in shaggy clusters above aromatic foliage.

 

Also known as Monarda this cottage garden favourite, producing vibrant flowers from midsummer into autumn. The nectar rich blooms are highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, making it a valuable addition to wildlife friendly gardens.

 

The foliage is fragrant and can be used for herbal teas, adding both ornamental and culinary interest.

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow seeds thinly on the surface of moist well drained compost and lightly cover with fine soil or vermiculite. Maintain temperatures at 18 to 21°C in a propagator or covered tray. Germination usually occurs within 2 to 3 weeks. Transplant seedlings into individual pots when large enough to handle. Harden off and plant out after last frost spacing 40 to 60 cm apart. For direct sowing wait until soil is warm and frost risk has passed.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Water regularly during dry spells and feed lightly with a balanced fertiliser to encourage abundant blooms. Deadhead spent flowers to prolong the display and cut back stems after flowering to maintain tidy growth. Scarlet Beebalm thrives in moist soils and will spread gently, naturalising in suitable settings.
