Viper’s Bugloss Seeds – Irish Plants Direct
 
A striking biennial wildflower producing tall spikes of vivid blue flowers with red stamens.
 
Native Flowers Viper’s Bugloss is valued for its long flowering season and strong attraction to pollinators.
 
Unlike many bedding plants Viper’s Bugloss thrives in dry, sandy soils and naturalistic planting schemes, making it one of the most rewarding native flowers for wildlife friendly gardens.

Sow March–May or August–September directly outdoors or in trays. Germination 14–21 days at 18–22°C.
Soil and Position Well-drained, sandy or chalky soil; prefers full sun.
Height 60–90 cm with tall spikes of blue flowers.
Flowering June–September.
 
Sowing instructions
Sow seeds thinly on the surface of moist compost and press lightly. Cover very lightly with fine soil. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle, spacing 25–30 cm apart. Alternatively sow directly outdoors in prepared beds.
 
Grow and maintenance
Grow in poor, well-drained soil with minimal care. Viper’s Bugloss thrives in sunny positions and requires little feeding. Water during prolonged dry periods. Allow plants to self-seed for naturalised displays.
