Sowing & Growing

When to Sow February to April indoors for transplanting outdoors after frost

Germination 7 to 14 days at 18–22°C

Soil & Position Fertile, well drained soil enriched with organic matter; prefers full sun

Height/Spread 120–150cm with bushy growth

Harvesting July to September, picking fruits when fully coloured and firm

 

Sowing Instructions

Sow seeds thinly on the surface of moist fine compost in trays or pots. Lightly cover with compost or vermiculite. Maintain warmth until seedlings emerge. Transplant when large enough to handle into individual pots and grow on before planting outdoors after frost. Space plants 45–60cm apart in prepared beds, borders, or containers. Provide supports such as canes or cages for upright growth.

 

Grow & Maintenance

Grow in fertile soil with regular watering. Tomatoes thrive in sunny sites and benefit from mulching to retain moisture. Remove side shoots to encourage strong fruiting stems. Suitable for borders, greenhouses, and outdoor plots. Protect young plants from slugs and late frosts.
