Onion Spring Eiffel Seeds

 

A high quality salad onion producing long, slender white shafts topped with dark green leaves. Spring Eiffel is a versatile and reliable variety that stands well over winter and delivers a crisp, mild flavour perfect for salads, sandwiches, stir fries, and Oriental dishes.

 

With successional sowing, it provides a continuous supply of fresh spring onions throughout the summer months.

Sow March to September in succession for a steady harvest.

Germination 14 to 21 days in warm, steady conditions.

Soil and Position Prefers loam or sandy soil that is alkaline or neutral. Choose a sunny, well drained site enriched with compost or well rotted manure dug in during autumn.

Height Slender shafts with foliage to approx. 30 cm.

Harvest June to September; pull when stems are large enough to use.

Good Companions Carrots, beetroot, lettuce, leeks, and brassicas.

Avoid Pairing With Beans, peas, and asparagus.

 

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow thinly in drills 1 cm deep, 15 cm apart, from March to September. For a continuous supply, sow little and often every 3 to 4 weeks. No thinning is required; simply pull onions when they reach the desired size. Suitable for pots and containers if space is limited.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Grow in a sunny, well drained site. Keep soil moist during dry spells to encourage steady growth. Avoid waterlogging. For winter standing, sow late in the season and harvest as needed.
