Onion Spring Guardsman Seeds

Guardsman produces long, slender white stems with vibrant green tops and a crisp, mild flavour. This hardy, upright variety is slow to bolt, ensuring a longer harvest period and high quality yields throughout the season. Sow March to September in succession for a continuous supply.

Germination 14 to 21 days in warm, steady conditions.

Soil and Position Prefers fertile, well drained soil in full sun. Tolerates loam or sandy soils that are neutral to alkaline.

Height Approx 30 to 45 cm; upright habit with pencil straight stems.

Harvest May to October; pull when stems are large enough to use.

Good Companions Carrots, beetroot, lettuce, leeks, and brassicas.

Avoid Pairing With Beans, peas, and asparagus.

 

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow thinly in drills 1 cm deep, 15 cm apart, from March to September. For a steady harvest, sow every 3 to 4 weeks. No thinning is required; simply pull onions when they reach the desired size. Suitable for pots and containers as well as open ground.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Grow in a sunny, well drained site. Keep soil moist during dry spells to encourage steady growth. Avoid freshly manured soil, which can cause soft growth. Guardsman is slow to bolt, making it reliable for summer and autumn cropping.
