This easy to grow annual herb is a dense green plant very small dark green flavoursome leaves.

Sow the seed thinly from February onto well drained compost and cover lightly leave on a sunny window sill.

 

Alternatively sow outdoors in a sunny sheltered spot into fertile soil from April Basil doesn't tolerate any cold so make sure all frosts have passed before planting out. Basil will flower in summer just trim the plant to encourage new leaf growth.
