Basil Sweet Large Leaf Herb Seeds

A classic sweet basil variety with large, smooth, bright green leaves and a rich, aromatic flavour. This vigorous grower is ideal for pesto, tomato salads, pasta sauces, and Mediterranean dishes.

 

The leaves are tender and intensely fragrant, with a slightly peppery finish.

 

 

Perfect for containers, raised beds, and sunny windowsills. The plants are bushy and productive, with excellent leaf texture and resistance to bolting when regularly harvested. A staple in herb gardens and companion planting schemes.

Sow March to July indoors or directly outdoors after frost.

Germination 7 to 14 days at 18–22°C.

Soil and Position Light, well-drained soil; prefers full sun and sheltered position.

Harvesting June to October; pick leaves regularly to encourage fresh growth.

 

Sowing instructions

 

Sow between March and July onto moist compost in trays or modules. Cover lightly and keep warm. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into pots or borders. Harden off and plant out after frost. Space 25 cm apart.

 

Grow and maintenance

 

Grow in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly and feed monthly with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Harvest leaves as needed, avoiding removal of more than one-third of the plant at a time. Pinch out flower buds to extend leaf production.

 

Uses and benefits

 

Perfect for herb gardens, containers, windowsills, and companion planting. The aromatic leaves are ideal for pesto, pasta, pizza, soups, and salads. Pairs well with tomatoes, peppers, and oregano. Avoid planting near sage.
