Basil Bush Herb Seed

A compact, dome-shaped basil with tiny aromatic leaves and a dense, bushy habit. Also known as Spicy Globe Basil, this variety is ideal for small spaces, containers, and edging herb beds. The flavour is intense and peppery, perfect for seasoning sauces, salads, and Mediterranean dishes.

 

 

Unlike larger leaved basils, Bush Basil maintains its shape without pinching and resists bolting in warm conditions. Its tidy growth and ornamental appeal make it a favourite for windowsills, patio pots, and companion planting.

Sow March to July indoors or directly outdoors after frost.

Germination 7 to 14 days at 18–22°C.

Soil and Position Light, well-drained soil; prefers full sun and sheltered position.

Height Approx 20 to 30 cm; compact, rounded habit.

Harvesting June to October; pick leaves regularly to encourage fresh growth.

 

Sowing instructions

 

Sow between March and July onto moist compost in trays or modules. Cover lightly and keep warm. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into pots or borders. Harden off and plant out after frost. Space 20 cm apart.

 

Grow and maintenance

 

Grow in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly and feed monthly with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Harvest leaves as needed, avoiding removal of more than one-third of the plant at a time. Protect from cold and excessive wet.
