Nasturtium Peach Melba Seeds - Irish Plants Direct
 
A compact hardy annual with a profusion of semi double creamy yellow flowers flushed with pearly red to dark orange markings on each petal above attractive dark green foliage.
 
Peach Melba forms neat uniform clumps that carry their blooms well above the leaves for maximum colour impact in borders containers and hanging baskets. Both flowers and leaves are edible and add a decorative peppery note to salads and platters while also attracting pollinators to the kitchen garden.

Sow Sow March to May outdoors where they are to flower or sow indoors for earlier displays then harden off and plant out after all risk of frost has passed.
Germination Usually 7 to 10 days under warm steady conditions.
Soil and Position Thrives in loam chalk or sandy soils and tolerates acidic alkaline or neutral conditions; prefers full sun and good drainage but will tolerate light shade.
Height Approx 25 to 30 cm; compact bushy habit ideal for edging low borders and containers.
Flowering June to September with a long season of colour when grown in sunny sites.
 
Sowing Instructions
 
Sow three or four seeds into individual pots on a sunny windowsill in March to May or sow directly into prepared soil after the last frost. Cover seeds very lightly or press onto the surface keep the compost warm and evenly moist and prick out or pot on when seedlings are large enough to handle. Harden off before planting out and space plants about 20 to 30 cm apart for best effect.
 
Grow and Maintenance
 
Grow in full sun in free draining soil and water regularly while establishing. Avoid waterlogging and feed lightly if growing in containers. Remove spent flowers to encourage continuous flowering and to keep plants tidy. Use containers or defined beds to control volunteers and replace congested clumps every few seasons to maintain vigour.
 
Uses and Benefits
 
Ideal for hanging baskets pots window boxes low cottage borders and mixed edible beds. Flowers and tender leaves are edible and provide a colourful peppery garnish for salads sandwiches and desserts. Plants work well as companion plants in vegetable plots attracting pollinators and beneficial insects and provide an eye catching contrast when paired with blue purple or silver foliaged plants.
