A stately biennial producing tall spires of fully double flowers in a wide range of colours.

 

Known botanically as Alcea rosea Chaters Double Mix this variety is valued for its dramatic vertical presence and cottage garden charm.

 

Unlike ordinary single flowered hollyhocks Chaters Double Mix provides ruffled double blooms making it one of the most admired choices for borders and traditional gardens.

Sow March to May directly outdoors in prepared beds or indoors for transplanting. Germination 14 to 21 days at 15 to 20°C. Soil and Position Fertile well drained soil; prefers full sun. Height 150 to 200 cm with tall spires and double mixed coloured flowers. Flowering June to August in the second year.

 

Sowing instructions

Prepare a fine seed bed in full sun. Sow seeds thinly in drills 0.5 cm deep and 30 cm apart. Thin seedlings to 45 cm spacing once established. Water well after sowing and keep soil evenly moist during dry spells. Hollyhock Chaters Double Mix is best grown against walls fences or in the back of borders.

 

Grow and maintenance
