Gourd Waltham Butternut ORGANIC Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

These easy to grow pale skinned butternut squash produce high yields of large fruits with long thick necks and a small seed cavity.

They have deep orange sweet tasting flesh that impoves with storing for winter use.

Germination 7 - 21 days

Loam or sandy soil that's acidic or neutral

Harvest October - November

Companion plants Corn, Pumpkins, Nasturtium

Harvest by cutting the fruit off the plant

Sow from April onwards into 9cm pots placing 2 seeds on their side 1.5 cm deep place on a sunny window sill or propagator.

Keeping moist remove the weaker seeding when they emerge and grow on the stronger one.

When the plants get 4/5 leaves gently accustom them to the outside and plant out when the risk of frost has passed leaving 90cm between plants.

Alternatively sow outside in Late May 60cm apart placing 2 seeds in the ground 1.5cm deep remove the weaker seedling when they emerge.
