Ageratum Blue Mink Seeds – Irish Plants Direct

Ageratum Blue Mink (Ageratum houstonianum) is a compact, free-flowering annual that produces masses of soft, powder-blue, fluffy blooms from early summer through to the first frosts.

The dense, cushion like flowers add a touch of gentle charm and texture to borders, bedding displays, and containers, creating a beautiful contrast against brighter summer colours.

Renowned for its long-lasting blooms and neat, mounded habit, Blue Mink is a favourite for edging paths and flowerbeds, as well as for cutting and floral arrangements.

The flowers are loved by bees and butterflies, helping to support local pollinators throughout the season.

This easy-to-grow variety thrives in sunny locations with moist but well drained soil. Its uniform growth and compact nature make it a reliable choice for gardeners looking to add soft colour and texture to their outdoor spaces.

Sowing Instructions

Indoors:
Sow from February to April on the surface of moist seed compost, pressing lightly without covering, as light aids germination. Keep at 20–25°C and ensure good airflow to prevent damping off. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into individual pots and grow on in cooler conditions.

Outdoors:
Harden off before planting out after all risk of frost has passed. Choose a sunny, sheltered spot and space plants 20 cm apart. Remove spent flowers regularly to encourage continuous blooming.

Ageratum Blue Mink offers a long season of soft, sky-blue blooms ideal for bedding schemes, borders, and containers. Compact, easy to maintain, and pollinator-friendly, it’s a reliable choice for both novice and experienced gardeners seeking a summer full of colour.
