Onion Spring Ramrod Seeds - Irish Plants Direct
 
A vigorous British bred spring onion producing long, pencil straight white stems with dark green upright foliage.
 
Ramrod is quick and easy to grow, with excellent flavour and good winter hardiness, making it suitable for sowing through summer and for overwintering to pull in spring. A reliable, bolt resistant variety that provides a steady supply of crisp, mild salad onions for months.

Sow March to September in succession for a continuous harvest.
Germination 14 to 21 days in warm, steady conditions.
Soil and Position Prefers fertile, well drained loam or sandy soil that is neutral to alkaline. Choose a sunny, open site enriched with compost or well rotted manure dug in during autumn.
Height Approx 30 to 40 cm; upright habit with slender stems.
Harvest June to September for summer sowings, or the following spring from late sowings.
Good Companions Carrots, beetroot, lettuce, leeks, and brassicas.
Avoid Pairing With Beans, peas, and asparagus.
 
Sowing Instructions
 
Sow thinly in drills 1 cm deep, 15 cm apart, from March to September. For a continuous supply, sow every 3 to 4 weeks. No thinning is required; simply pull onions when they reach the desired size. Suitable for pots and containers if space is limited.
 
Grow and Maintenance
 
Grow in a sunny, well drained site. Keep soil moist during dry spells to encourage steady growth. Avoid waterlogging. Ramrod is winter hardy and slow to bolt, making it reliable for extended cropping.
