Gourd Pear Bi Colour Ornamental Seeds

Pear Bicolour is a highly decorative ornamental gourd variety grown for its distinctive pear shaped fruits. Each gourd is divided into two contrasting colours, typically dark green at the base and bright yellow at the top, sometimes with pale vertical striping.

 

This bold colour split gives the impression of two fruits fused together, making them especially eye catching in seasonal displays.

 

The plants are vigorous annual trailers, spreading up to 1 to 2 metres across the ground or climbing supports such as trellises. They are easy to cultivate and highly productive, producing a generous crop of small fruits that can be harvested in late summer and autumn. Once cured, the gourds keep their ornamental qualities for months, making them ideal for long?lasting decoration.

Sow April to May indoors, or May to June outdoors after frost

Germination 7 to 14 days at 18 to 22°C

Soil and Position Fertile well drained soil in full sun. Requires space for trailing vines or support for climbing

Height/Spread Vines 100 to 200 cm trailing habit

Harvest September to October. Pick when skins are hard and fully coloured

 

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow seeds on edge 1.5 to 2 cm deep in pots of moist compost. Harden off and transplant once all risk of frost has passed. Alternatively sow directly outdoors in warm soil. Space plants 90 to 120 cm apart to allow for vigorous growth.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Water regularly during dry spells and mulch to conserve moisture. Feed with a balanced fertiliser once vines begin to run. Harvest fruits before frost leaving a short stem attached. Cure in a warm dry place for 2 to 3 weeks before storing or using for decoration.
