Gaillardia Goblin Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

Gaillardia x grandiflora that dazzles with its fiery, red and yellow blooms, making it a striking addition to flower beds, borders, and containers.

The genus Gaillardia is named after the French botanist, M. Gaillard de Charentonneau, while grandiflora refers to its large, showy flowers.

The cultivar Goblin is especially popular for its bushy growth and profusion of daisy-like flowers that create a bold, cheerful display throughout the summer.

Growing to a height of 30-45 cm, Gaillardia Goblin is perfect for adding colour and texture to smaller spaces or as part of a mixed border. Its daisy-shaped flowers, with vibrant red petals tipped with yellow, stand tall above the green foliage, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies. This hardy, drought-tolerant plant is ideal for low-maintenance gardens and is particularly suited to sunny, well-drained spots.

Sowing Instructions

Sow seeds indoors from March to May in trays or pots filled with moist, well-drained compost. Lightly press the seeds into the surface but do not cover them, as they require light to germinate. Keep the compost moist and maintain a temperature of 18-21°C. Germination usually takes 14-21 days.

For outdoor sowing, wait until May to June, and choose a sunny, well-drained location. Scatter the seeds thinly, pressing them gently into the soil without covering. Keep the soil moist until germination, which typically occurs within 14-21 days. Once the seedlings are large enough, transplant them to their final positions, spacing them 30-45 cm apart to allow for proper air circulation.

Gaillardia Goblin thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. It is drought-tolerant once established, but regular watering will help keep the plants healthy, particularly during dry spells. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming throughout the summer.

This vibrant, low-maintenance plant is perfect for adding a bold pop of colour to any garden. Gaillardia Goblin is especially well-suited for creating a cheerful, pollinator-friendly garden or as a border plant that provides long-lasting blooms from early summer through autumn.
