Dianthus Maiden Pink Carmine Red Seeds

A vibrant and mat forming perennial with masses of tiny carmine red blooms held above narrow green foliage.

 

Dianthus Maiden Pink Carmine-red spreads via creeping shoots to form a dense carpet that flowers freely from late spring through summer. The serrated petals and vivid colouring make it a standout in rockeries gravel gardens and dry borders.

 

This hardy perennial thrives in full sun and well drained soil and is ideal for edging paths walls and containers. It is drought tolerant once established and attracts bees butterflies and other beneficial insects. Also known as wild pink it is perfect for naturalistic and low maintenance planting schemes.

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow seeds thinly on the surface of moist well drained compost and lightly press in. Do not cover as light aids germination. Maintain warmth at 15 to 20°C in a propagator or covered tray. Germination usually occurs within 2 to 4 weeks. Transplant seedlings into individual pots when large enough to handle. Harden off and plant out in spring or autumn spacing 25 to 30 cm apart.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Water regularly during establishment then reduce watering. Trim lightly after flowering to maintain shape and encourage reblooming. Suitable for rockeries alpine troughs and dry borders. May self seed in favourable conditions.
