Sowing Instructions

 

Lilac seeds benefit from cold stratification to break dormancy. To stratify, place seeds in a moist medium (like sand or peat) and store them in a cool, dark area (1-5°C) for 30-60 days.

 

Once stratified, sow seeds in well-drained soil, lightly covering them. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, and maintain a temperature of 18-21°C for optimal germination. Transplant seedlings into individual pots once they have a few sets of leaves, and harden off before planting outdoors after the last frost. Space plants 1.5 meters apart to allow for their mature spread.
