This attractive pointed cabbage is a compact variety that produces deep purple red leaves with a mild flavour and a good crunchy texture. 

 

Perfect for using raw in salads it stores well.

Cabbages require a fertile well drained soil in partial shade that has been well dug in autumn they do not grow well in acidic soil so adding lime to the soil may be necessary.

 

Sow indoors from February onwards in to modules or a seed tray of moist compost.

When the plants are large enough to handle pot on into individual pots or a seed tray spacing 5cm apart. When the plants have around 5 leaves harden off and transplant to their final growing position spacing the plants around 40cm apart and 30cm between rows treading the plants in well.

 

Alternatively sow outdoors between April - May in a seed bed sowing thinly in drills 1.25cm deep thin the seedlings eventually spacing the plants 40cm apart and 30cm between rows into their final growing position treading the plants in well.

 

Water well before transplanting and ensure they are watered during dry spells.
