This popular gardeners favourite has compact solid pointed tasty green heads with loose leaves that can be harvested throughout the year.

Loam or sandy soil that's alkaline or neutral 
Harvest February - May  September - November 
Companion Plants Other brassica, celery, chard, spinach, tomato, rosemary, sage and onion 
Do not plant with strawberries.
Harvest when the heads are firm cut off the heads the stumps can be left in the ground to produce loose leaves
A good source of vitamin A and C
Use for Boiling, steaming or shred for salads.
Ideal for freezing
 
Cabbages require a fertile well drained soil in partial shade that has been well dug in autumn they do not grow well in acidic soil so adding lime to the soil may be necessary.
 
Sow indoors from March onwards when the plants have around 5 leaves harden off and transplant to their final growing position spacing the plants around 45cm apart and 45cm between rows treading the plants in well.
 
Alternatively sow outdoors between March - August in a seed bed sowing thinly in drills 1.25cm deep thin the seedlings eventually spacing the plants 45cm apart and 45cm between rows into their final growing position treading the plants in well.
 
Always water well when transplanting and water during warm spells.
