A heritage French variety prized for its early cropping, thick spears, and delicate flavour. First cultivated near Paris in the 19th century, this gourmet asparagus produces rose-tinted tips and pale stems that can be blanched white or harvested green.

 

Ideal for kitchen gardens and perennial vegetable beds. Forms crowns in the first year and begins producing harvestable spears from the second. The flavour is aromatic and slightly nutty, with tender texture and excellent culinary versatility.

Sowing instructions

 

Sow between March and June into trays or directly into prepared beds. Sow 2 cm deep and space thinly. Keep evenly moist during germination. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle, spacing 30 cm apart in rows 45 cm apart. Allow crowns to establish before harvesting.

 

Grow and maintenance

 

Plant in full sun in rich, free draining soil. Water regularly while establishing. Mulch annually and keep beds weed-free. Do not harvest in the first year; harvest lightly in the second, and fully from the third year onward. Cut back foliage in autumn once yellowed.
