Verbascum Mullein ORGANIC Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

This tall decorative perennial plant has a rosette of pointed grey green leaves from which a tall flower spikes that is covered in small bright yellow flowers erupts in summer.

A popular cottage garden plant that is also a medicinal herb used for easing coughs and chest problems by making a tea from the flowers.

A valuable plant for attracting wildlife into the garden.

Sow April - July

Loam or chalky soil thats alkaline or neutral

Germination time 21 - 35 days

Cut down after flowering it will self seed

Chill the seed for three weeks before sowing.

Sow during April on a warm window sill or in a propagator into trays of moist compost cover with 5mm of sieved compost.

When the seedlings are large enough to handle transplant to 5cm apart into trays to grow on.

Gradually harden off the plants before planting out after all risk of frost has passed to flower the following year.

Sow between May - June into finely racked soil 5cm deep gradually space the plants to 75cm apart.
