Verbascum Mullein Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

This cottage garden border plant is also a medicinal herb used for easing coughs and chest problems by making a tea from the flowers.

A tall biennial plant which produces low growing rosettes in the first year then tall bright yellow well branched flower spikes in the second year.

The seed will spead freely.

Sow February - April

Loam or chalky soil thats alkaline or neutral

Germination time 21 - 35 days

Ideal for beds, borders, wildlife, cottage, gravel

Also known as mullein

Cut down after flowering it will self seed

Chill the seed for three weeks before sowing.

Sow between February - April on a warm window sill or in a propagator into trays of moist compost cover with 5mm of sieved compost.

When the seedlings are large enough to handle transplant to 5cm apart into trays to grow on.

Gradually harden off the plants before planting out after all risk of frost has passed to flower the following year.
