A rich, dark-leaved variety, Merlo Nero is a unique Italian spinach known for its tender texture and rich earthy flavour. This variety’s deep green, almost black leaves make it a striking addition to any garden while offering a delicious and nutritious addition to your kitchen.
 
Merlo Nero spinach grows in a compact, rosette form, making it ideal for small spaces and containers. With a slightly milder taste than traditional spinach, its tender leaves are perfect for salads, sautéing, or adding to soups and stews. It’s also a favourite in Mediterranean cooking.
 
Thriving in cool weather, this spinach variety is perfect for early spring or late autumn harvests.

Soil: Well-drained, fertile soil, neutral to slightly alkaline pH
Height: 20 - 30 cm

Avoid Planting With: Potatoes, Brassicas
Water consistently, especially in dry periods, and mulch around the plants to keep soil cool and moist.
 
Sowing Instructions
 
Sow seeds directly outdoors from February to March for an early spring harvest, or from August to September for autumn harvesting. Plant seeds 1-2 cm deep in well-drained, fertile soil and space them 20-25 cm apart.
 
Merlo Nero spinach is perfect for growing in small spaces, containers, or raised beds. Enjoy fresh, tender spinach leaves throughout the seasons.
