Soapwort Seeds

A charming and free flowering perennial groundcover with masses of small pink star shaped blooms held above trailing green foliage.

 

Rock Soapwort forms low, spreading mats that spill beautifully over walls, rockeries, and edging, creating a soft carpet of colour from late spring into summer. The nectar rich flowers are highly attractive to bees and hoverflies, adding ecological value to wildlife friendly gardens.

 

This easy to grow perennial thrives in full sun and well drained soil, tolerating poor conditions and drought once established.

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow seeds thinly on the surface of moist well drained compost and lightly cover with fine soil or vermiculite. Maintain temperatures at 15 to 20°C in a propagator or covered tray. Germination usually occurs within 2 to 3 weeks. Transplant seedlings into individual pots when large enough to handle. Harden off and plant out after last frost spacing 30 to 40 cm apart. For direct sowing wait until soil is warm and frost risk has passed.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Water regularly during dry spells until plants are established. Once mature, Rock Soapwort is drought tolerant and requires little care. Trim lightly after flowering to maintain compact growth and encourage a second flush of blooms. Suitable for rockeries, walls, edging, and wildlife-friendly schemes.
