Castor Oil Plant Seeds

Sow March to May indoors in pots or trays. Germination 14 to 21 days at 20–25°C. Soil and Position Light fertile well drained soil; prefers full sun and sheltered sites. Height Up to 150–200 cm depending on conditions. Harvesting Seeds ripen late summer to autumn.

 

Sowing instructions

Sow seeds individually in pots 2 cm deep using a free draining compost. Place in a warm bright position and keep moist until germination. Harden off seedlings gradually before planting outdoors after the last frost. Space plants 90 cm apart to allow for their large leaves.

 

Grow and maintenance

Grow in fertile soil with regular watering to encourage lush foliage. Provide shelter from strong winds to protect the large leaves. Remove seed capsules before they mature if self seeding is not desired. Handle seeds and plants with care as all parts are toxic if ingested.
