The Salvia officinalis commonly known as Sage is a fragrant, evergreen herb from the mint family, celebrated for its aromatic leaves and medicinal properties.

 

The Latin name Salvia officinalis comes from "salvia," meaning "to save" in Latin, referencing its traditional use in herbal medicine to promote health and wellbeing.

Sowing Instructions

 

Indoors: Sow seeds from February to April in seed trays or pots filled with moist, well-drained compost. Lightly press the seeds into the soil and cover with a thin layer of compost. Keep at a temperature of 18-20°C for optimal germination. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots or directly into the garden after the last frost.

 

Outdoors: Sow directly into prepared soil in a sunny, sheltered spot from April to May. Lightly press the seeds into the soil and keep moist until germination occurs. Thin seedlings to 30-60 cm apart once they are established.
