Red Valerian White Seed

A hardy and free flowering perennial with clusters of pure white star shaped blooms held above grey green foliage. 

 

Valerian White is a long lived plant that flowers abundantly from late spring through summer, bringing brightness and elegance to borders, walls, and cottage-style planting schemes.

 

The nectar rich blooms are highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and hoverflies, making it a valuable addition to wildlife friendly gardens.

 

This easy to grow perennial thrives in full sun and well drained soil, tolerating poor conditions and drought once established. Perfect for informal beds, rockeries, and naturalised plantings.

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow seeds thinly on the surface of moist well drained compost and lightly cover with fine soil or vermiculite. Maintain temperatures at 18 to 21°C in a propagator or covered tray. Germination usually occurs within 2 to 3 weeks. Transplant seedlings into individual pots when large enough to handle. Harden off and plant out after last frost spacing 40 to 60 cm apart. For direct sowing wait until soil is warm and frost risk has passed.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Water regularly during dry spells until plants are established. Once mature, Red Valerian is drought tolerant and requires little care. Deadhead spent blooms to prolong flowering and prevent excessive self-seeding. Suitable for borders, walls, rockeries, and wildlife-friendly schemes.
