Perilla Red Leaved Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

This is an easy to grow aromatic herb with attractive heart shaped burgundy coloured leaves that has a flavour that resembles mint.

Small insignificant pink flowers bloom in summer.

Known as Japanese Parsley the leaves can be harvested for salads, garnish or added to Oriental dishes.

A nice looking ornamental plant grown for its foliage that is quite at home in the garden border, pots and containers on a sunny patio.

Harvest June - October

Pick the leaves when required.

Use in salads and garnish

Sow the seed thinly between April - June into a tray of well drained compost and cover lightly and leave on a sunny window sill.

When the plants are large enough to handle pot them into individual pots to grow on.

Plant out when the risk of frost has passed.

Alternatively sow outdoors in a sunny sheltered spot into fertile soil from May where they are to grow.
