Seed Qty Approx 500

Sow February to April sow thinly in a sunny, open bed with deep, stone free soil. Germination can be slow in cool conditions, so be patient and use fresh seed each season for best results.
Germination 10 to 21 days depending on weather; may take up to 3 weeks in colder or wetter spells.
Soil and Position Deep, fertile loam or sandy soil in full sun; avoid freshly manured ground to prevent forked roots.
Height Foliage to approx. 30 to 45 cm; root crop below ground.
Harvest Autumn to winter; flavour improves after exposure to frost. Lift as required or store lifted roots in a cool, ventilated place.

Sowing instructions

Depth and spacing: Sow 1 to 1.5 cm deep in rows 30 cm apart. Do not transplant; thin to 10 cm for full sized roots.
Timing: Sow February to April when soil is workable. If emergence is poor after three weeks, re sow promptly.
Seed freshness: Parsnip seed is short lived; replace each year to ensure strong germination.

Grow and maintenance

Soil prep: Choose deep, stone free soil; enrich in autumn for a previous crop rather than manuring in spring to maintain root quality.
Care: Keep soil evenly moist during dry spells to avoid checks in growth. Allow roots to remain through early frosts to develop sweeter flavour before lifting.
Health: Good general performance and canker tolerance reported for this variety, supporting clean, storeworthy roots.

Uses and benefits

Culinary: Excellent roasted, boiled, or mashed; sweet, nutty flavour that intensifies after frost.
Seasonality: A staple for winter cooking and reliable for overwintering in the ground.
