Parsley Gigante D Italia ORGANIC Herb Seed - Irish Plants Direct

Parsley ‘Gigante d’Italia’ (Petroselinum crispum) is a large leaf variety prized for its robust growth and vibrant, aromatic foliage.
Known for its wide, flat leaves and intense, fresh flavour, this variety brings a bold touch to both culinary dishes and herb gardens. It’s ideal for those looking to grow a generous supply of parsley for use in salads, sauces, soups, and garnishes.

This Italian variety is particularly known for its hardiness and high yield, making it perfect for gardeners who want to harvest parsley throughout the growing season. ‘Gigante d’Italia’ boasts thick, dark green leaves that are not only flavourful but also large enough to be harvested easily, making it a great choice for both fresh and dried applications.

A rich source of vitamins A, C, and K, as well as iron and antioxidants, parsley is a nutritious herb that enhances many dishes. The vigorous plant is easy to grow, thriving in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil, with a preference for cool to moderate temperatures. Its strong flavour and rapid regrowth after cutting make it a reliable herb in the kitchen all year long.

Sowing Instructions

Indoors: Start seeds indoors from March to April in seed trays or pots filled with fine compost. Cover lightly with compost and keep at a temperature of 15-20°C. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, as parsley seeds can be slow to germinate. Soaking seeds in warm water for 24 hours before sowing can help speed up germination. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, harden off and transplant outdoors.

Outdoors: Direct sow from April to July in well-prepared, moist soil. Sow seeds 1 cm deep, spacing them 15 cm apart in rows 30 cm apart. Keep the soil consistently moist, and thin seedlings as necessary to allow for adequate growth. Regular harvesting of the leaves will encourage new growth and prolong the harvest.

Parsley ‘Gigante d’Italia’ is a fantastic choice for gardeners looking for a large, high-yielding variety that delivers fresh, flavourful leaves throughout the season. Its large, vibrant foliage and hardy growth make it an essential herb for both culinary use and ornamental appeal.
