Pansy Blackjack Seeds

A long flowering pansy with large, velvety blooms in a near black shade accented by a tiny yellow eye. Perfect for bold mixed bedding and container displays, and can be grown as a perennial or biennial for extended seasonal interest.

Sow February to April or May to August; sow indoors on a sunny windowsill or in a propagator, then transplant once large enough to handle.

Germination 10 to 20 days in warm, steady conditions.

Soil and Position Suits loam, clay, or sand; tolerant of acidic, alkaline, or neutral soils. Plant in sun or partial shade.

Height Approx 30 cm.

Flowering May to September from spring sowings, and March to May from late sowings.

 

Sowing instructions

 

Sow between February and March (or May to August) into a seed tray of moist compost. Cover seeds 5 mm deep with sieved compost. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into trays 5 cm apart to grow on before planting out.

 

Grow and maintenance

 

Plant in sun or partial shade in well prepared soil. Keep evenly moist while establishing. Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering and maintain compact, tidy plants.

Ideal for beds, borders, pots, containers, and edging in cottage style schemes. The near black flowers provide dramatic contrast and long lasting colour through the season.
