Description

Okra Clemson Spineless Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

This spineless variety of Okra also known as ladies fingers has green pods with a sweet flavour.

Harvest the pods when they around 7 - 10cm long and tender as they tend to get tough if left.

The pods will need harvesting daily.

The flower buds and leaves are also edible.

Sow April - May

Germination 7 - 10 days

Loam or sandy soil that's acidic or neutral

Harvest July - September

Companion Plants Lettuce, Chive, parsley and Tarragon

Harvest when the fruits are between 7 - 10cm long cutting with a sharp knife

A good source of vitamin A, C, K and B6

Use for Roasting, baking, curries, stews and stir-frys

Apply a liquid feed every two weeks after the first flowers appear.

Mulch around the plants and ensure the plants are well watered and not allowed to dry out.

Sow indoors between mid April to May in 9cm pots sowing two seeds per pot place the seed on their side 2.5cm deep and cover with compost.

Place on a sunny window sill or propagator to germinate, remove the weaker plant and grow on the stronger one.

When the roots are visible at the bottom of the pot transplant to a larger pot and grow on again.

Harden off and when the danger of frost has passed they can be planted outside into a very sunny sheltered border or grow on in the greenhouse or tunnel for best results.
