Nasturtium Empress Of India Seeds

A compact non trailing nasturtium with a profusion of rich crimson red single flowers above dark green foliage, excellent for borders and containers where long lasting summer colour is wanted.

 

Quick and easy to grow and well suited to cottage and edible gardens.

Sow Sow March to May in pots for earlier displays or sow outdoors April to May where they are to flower.

Germination Germinates quickly in warm conditions, typically 7 to 10 days.

Soil and Position Loam chalk or sandy soil; tolerant of acidic alkaline or neutral soils; prefers full sun and good drainage.

Height Approx 30 cm; compact tidy habit ideal for edging and containers.

Flowering June to September with abundant summer blooms; deadhead to prolong flowering.

 

Sowing Instructions

 

Sow 3 or 4 seeds into individual pots on a sunny windowsill or into modules and transplant when sturdy; for direct sowing plant 1.5 to 2 cm deep where they are to flower and thin to the strongest plant. Harden off indoor raised plants before planting out after all risk of frost.

 

Grow and Maintenance

 

Keep soil evenly moist while establishing and water regularly in dry spells; avoid waterlogging. Grow in full sun for best flowering. Train or allow to trail from containers and deadhead regularly to maintain a tidy display. Allow some seed set if you want volunteers for the following season.
