Lettuce Head Summer Diamond Pilstar Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

This large lettuce is a butterhead variety with good quality heads with bright green leaves and a firm head.

Can be harvested from early summer.

Pellet seed is easy to see making sowing easier each pellet equals one seed.

The pellet contains nutrients to enable the seed to grow into strong plants.

They require no pricking out or thinning.

Keep the soil moist.

Sow February - July

Germination 7 - 14 days

Loam - sandy soil that's alkaline or neutral

Harvest May - October

Companion Plants Beetroot, beans, carrots and radish.

Do not plant with cabbage

Pick the lettuce when they are of a decent size

Use in Salads and sandwiches

Make small successional sowings in fertile well drained soil in a sheltered sunny spot fortnightly to ensure a good supply of leaves throughout the summer months.

Lettuce does not grow well in acidic soil.

Keep well watered during dry spells, it can be grown on the windowsill or in containers on the patio.

Sow indoors on a sunny window sill between February - April onto a seed tray of moist compost.

When the young plants are large enough to handle transplant into trays 5cm apart to grow on. Gradually harden off the young plants before planting out in April.

Sow between late April - July in drills 1.5cm deep and 15cm between rows. When the seedlings appear thin to 15cm apart.
