Lettuce Black Seeded Simpson ORGANIC Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

This fast growing heritage variety produces large sweet loose leaved crispy crinkled dark green leaves and is a very reliable variety for the home gardener.

Sow March - July

Germination 7 - 14 days

Loam or sandy soil that's alkaline or neutral

Harvest June - October

Companion Plants Beetroot, beans, carrots and radish

Do not plant with cabbage

Pick the lettuce when they are of a decent size

A good source of vitamin A

Use in Salads and sandwiches

Make small successional sowings in fertile well drained soil in a sheltered sunny spot fortnightly to ensure a good supply of leaves throughout summer.

Lettuce does not grow well in acidic soil.

Keep well watered during dry spells.

Sow inside on a sunny window sill or in a propagator during March.

When the seedlings are large enough to handle pot on into trays or individual modules to grow on.

Gradually harden off the young plants before planting out.

Sow outside between April to July in drills 1.5cm deep and 15cm between rows. When the seedlings appear thin to 20cm apart.
