Leek Freezo ORGANIC Seeds - Irish Plants Direct

 

This late variety has straight white roots with dark green leaves and an excellent flavour.

 

They are extremely winter hardy and can be harvested throughout winter into spring.

Leeks are a hungry crop that need well drained soil choose a sunny spot and dig the site in winter adding plenty of compost or well rotted manure. About a week before transplanting apply a general purpose fertiliser.

 

Sow between April - May indoors in seed trays sowing the seed thinly 1.5cm deep and covering with a layer of compost.

 

Sow the seed in a seed bed between June - July in drills 1.5cm deep thin to 4cm apart. 

 

The young plants are ready for transplanting when they are around 20cm high, water the bed the day before, trim the roots and the leaf tips. Make a hole 15cm deep with a dibber place leeks in the hole.Plant the young leeks 15cm apart and 30cm between rows.

 

As the leeks grow gently draw soil up around the plants to increase the length of the stem.

 

Water well in dry weather.
