Kale Westland Winter Seeds - Irish Plants Direct
 
This easy to grow winter vegetable produces large crops of dense very curly dark green leaves with a good flavour that improves after frost. 
 
They crop over a long period of time and are ideal for exposed gardens. 
 
Harvest regularly the leaves can be used as cut and come again when the plants are young or leave to mature. 
 
Seed Qty 3gram
 
Sow January - June 
Germination 14 - 21 days
Loam or clay soil that's acidic, alkaline or neutral 
Harvest October - January 
Companion plants Beet, Cabbage, Celery, Cucumber, Onion, Nasturtium, Marigold
Do not plant with Beans Tomato or Strawberry
Harvest by removing side shoots
A good source of vitamin A and C
Use in Stir - fry steam or braise 
 
Sow outside May - June in a prepared seed bed sowing thinly in rows 1.5cm deep keep the soil moist. When the plants have around 5 leaves transplant to their final position leaving 45cm between plants and rows firm in and water well.
 
Sow indoors January - April in a trays and cover with a fine layer of compost place on a warm windowsill or in a warm greenhouse grow on until the plants are large enough to handle then transplant into tray 5cm apart to grow on again.
Accustom the plants to outside and plant out when the risk of frost has passed leaving 45cm between each plant and 45cm between rows.
