Imperata Cylindrica Red Baron Grass Seeds - Irish Plants Direct
This eye catching perennial grass has dramatic looking spikes of red leaves that fade to green with age.
It bears silver white flowers during late summer.
A lovely border plant or for using in mixed container displays.
☀️Sow March - June or year round
☀️Loam or clay soil that's acidic, alkaline or neutral
☀️Germination time 14 - 21 days
☀️ Height 40cm
☀️Plant in sun or part shade
☀️Flowers July - September
☀️Ideal in beds, borders, containers, gravel, low maintenance
☀️Also known as Japanese blood grass
Sowing the seed is possible year round if a gentle heat can be achieved.
Alternatively sow onto a seed tray of moist compost covering lightly with compost and place on a sunny window sill or in green house between March - June.
When the seedlings are large enough to handle pot on in to individual pots to grow on.
Gradually harden off the plants before planting them out into their final growing position.
