This perennial herb also has long flat grass like leaves with a mild garlic taste.

They bear beautiful decorative white flowers during summer both the leaves and flowers can be used in cooking.

Harvest June - October or year round inside

Chives need well drained fertile soil in a sunny spot they are ideal for the window sill, containers and borders the flowers are also edible.

The seed can be sown into pots on a sunny window sill any time of the year sow thinly into pots covering with a fine layer of compost.

Sow outdoors when the risk of frost has passed sowing thinly 1cm deep into drills 30cm apart.
